About the product

The Water Protec System has been on the market since 2014. Each year, it is improving with the technology it uses and easier to install and most of all, simpler to use. The aim of the Water Protec System is to prevent damage caused by water. The product is an electronic valve installed at the main water entrance that automatically shuts off when the control panel receives an RF (radio frequency) signal from a wireless water sensor placed in a strategic location.

This product is extremely effective in preventing water overflow caused by the hot water tanks, bathtubs, sinks, toilets, dishwashers, washing machines, etc.

All you do is place the wireless sensors anywhere you foresee a potential trouble spot.

The Water Protec Kit comes complete with a Smart Valve, Remote Control, Control Panel and Five (5) Sensors.

How it works?

Step 1: A Needs Assessment is completed before anything else. This will determine the size of valve you require on the main water entry, the number of sensors to install, the type of sensors to install and where to put the control panel, etc.

Step 2: A quote is provided. Once accepted, GK Plumbing & Heating Inc. schedules and performs the installation. Then, the control panel is connected to the home’s Wi-Fi and all sensors are tested.

Step 3: Upon completion and testing of the installation, a certified inspector from Water Protec certifies the system and provides a certificate for the insurance company in order to be eligible for lower premiums.

• More than 70% of insurance claims are caused by water damage and mainly from the domestic water system?

  While sewer back-ups do happen, they mainly occur in the basement with damage to the floors and the personal property you have there as well. Whereas the damage from a water pipe is much more extensive causing damage to walls, ceilings, cabinets and even causing mold to appear and grow which is very dangerous to everyone’s health.

• Most, if not all major insurers, recognize this product as a method of protection and proaction, therefore, reducing your premiums on your home insurance?

  Because insurance companies have so many claims per year due to water damage, they want to ensure there are as little claims as possible. One way to ensure this is by installing the Water Protec System and in doing so, premium costs will drop, depending on the insurer. Upon installation of this product, you are provided with a certificate from Water Protec. You then show this certificate to your insurer and your premiums could be lowered!

• This product is further technologically advanced than that of our competitors?

  While we know there are other products similar to Water Protec’s, they are not as advanced as this. This complete system works with an internet connection! What if there is a power failure? Don’t worry! Water Protec has thought of that too! The mother board is equipped with a 9-volt battery in case of power failure. Your Water Protec System can be up and running without power for at least 24 hours if you purchase our battery-pack add-on. The equipment uses radio frequency to send signals to the control panel and the control panel, when connected to your Wi-Fi, can be set up to send notifications via SMS and/or email if ever there is a problem. Plus, the valve that is installed has a body that is completely stainless steel which is great for the longevity of the valve itself.

• This type of product could eventually become a regular/mandatory installation in new construction?

  Because the Ontario Building Code undergoes many changes between editions, specifically Plumbing (Part 7 of the O.B.C.), the committee and the Canadian Government at all levels are looking at ways to protect Canadian’s assets from the effect of global warming. The main water automatic shut off system is one of the solutions they are looking at. We are uncertain of how close this system is to becoming code implemented but we believe it will be sooner than later.
